Is sports betting legal in Florida?

Florida authorizes both retail (in-person) sportsbooks and statewide online wagering through licensed operators. Most major U.S. sportsbooks — DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, ESPN BET, and Fanatics among them — operate apps available to bettors physically located inside Florida. Hard Rock Bet (Seminole Tribe) operates as the sole statewide sportsbook under the 2021 compact.

Account creation typically requires identity verification (Social Security number, government ID, address). Once approved, deposits and withdrawals run through ACH, debit card, PayPal, or operator-branded prepaid cards depending on the book. Geolocation software confirms you're inside the state line every time you place a bet.

Legal sports betting arrived in Florida in Nov 2023, part of the post-2018 wave that followed the Supreme Court's decision in Murphy v. NCAA striking down the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). PASPA had restricted state-sanctioned sports betting outside Nevada; once it fell, regulatory authority returned to the states.
